Hi there!  Guess what?  Things at Zimbags are changing this year.  We are excited to start sharing these changes with you soon.  Keep your eyes open for new and exciting things.

Product We Heart: Falling Whistle

Falling Whistle is a campaign for peace in Congo. They sell whistles that are usually used with child soldiers in Congo to spread the word and "blow the whistle" on the war taking place there.

From the Falling Whistle website:

Falling Whistles gives a small window into our world’s largest war. Originally just a journal written about boys sent to the frontlines of war armed with only a whistle, readers forwarded it with the same kind of urgency in which it was written and demanded to know –

What can we do?

The Falling Whistles campaign launched with a simple response – make their weapon your voice and be a whistleblower for peace in Congo. Read the story and buy the whistle. Proceeds go to rehabilitate and advocate for war-affected children. Share their story and speak up for them.

Together, we’ll become the voice of a growing coalition for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

100% of the proceeds go directly to rehabilitate war-affected children and to advocate for their freedom.

On top of all of the great things Falling Whistle is doing, they have made the whistles beautiful. Each shiny whistle is on a necklace. There are four different styles of whistle. Our favorites are the Original ($34) and the Brushed ($44).

We love products that tell a story and do great things for people. And we love them even more when they are pretty! These whistles would make great presents because they give twice.

Happy Holidays from Zimbags

Hello there! We are sure you are in the full-on holiday swing of things. And we are too! Hanging ornaments, eating too much, bundling up, and enjoying time with friends and family.

We hope that you have a happy holidays this year. We can't wait to see what 2011 has in store for Zimbags.

We will be taking a holiday break from the Zimblog until the New Year (sometimes we get jealous that kids don't have to school). But that doesn't mean we won't still be selling Zimbags in our webstore. We are still the Happy Bag Elves and will still be working hard to Bag Poverty. Will you join us? Make 2011 the year we bring hope in droves to the women and children in Zimbabwe.

New Deigns & Events....

Hello there. Summer is in full swing and Zimbags are making the rounds at beaches, farmer's markets, picnics, the pool, and more. Where has your bag taken you? (We'd love to hear from you or see pictures!)

It's been an exciting summer as we made our first appearance at the Crossroads Farmer's Market in Bellevue, Washington and we are gearing up for Zimfest 2010 in Corvallis, Oregon from August 20-22.

Zimfest 2010 is bound to be a blast with Zimbabwean music and dancing and a marketplace full of other non-profits, musicians, artists, and more. We'd love to see you if you are in the area. Stop by and see what Zimbags is up to and dance with us.

We will be debuting two new screen print designs at Zimfest 2010 and the following week at the Crossroads Farmer's Market. They will be up online next month, but stop by one of these events to get them before everyone else. We also have toddler and kid shirts now that will be available at these events. All the designs are based on paintings done by the women artists and all of the proceeds go directly back to them.

We are excited about the things happening at Zimbags right now. Keep checking back for more updates and pictures. (And, of course, we'd love to hear from you and see you with your bag or shirt!)
